BANANA CONCHAE - AA Wrap Up
On Day 5, it was rather ugly-rainy-poopy-doopy-rubber-ducky-wuck y-Wookie-ookie-BLEH outside for a majority of the day. After fighting cabin fever, avoiding discussion of further dictionary referendums and maximizing use of our Steve Oliger voodoo doll for sadistic purposes, we eventually agreed to use the 6-Passenger Non-Challenge Rule strategy in
bbstenniz's car to get to the Tillamook Cheese Factory in Tillamook, OR (that was as big a mouthful as the cheese we would eventually eat). Mmmm, cheese! After taking a self-guided tour of the Tilla(e)MOOk(eratne Brand Crossword) Cheese Factory, the next logical step was to raid the cheese samples counter. Half our weight in various cheese samples later, we moved on to actually buying Tilla(e)MOOk(eratne Brand Crossword) Cheese to take back to the cabin. While I never actually bought any Tilla(e)MOOk(eratne Brand Crossword) Cheese to take back, I couldn't help but try some Tillamook Ice Cream (one scoop of Cookies 'n' Cream and one of Mint Chocolate Chip). Quite possibly the best ice cream I've ever had!
We celebrated New Year's in Cannon Beach with style; we played Pictionary! My team, consisting of
nigelbo,
wantonhalo and of course, myself, pwned the other team of
bbstenniz,
shirrach and
wallydraigle. We were unquestionably ratinger!
Of course, we did end up playing SOME Scrabble. Not a whole lot, but some. I was ratingest at blitz games (I didn't lose a single one of the 4 we played!), but faced much difficulty in a majority of the team games that took place. I suspect it was because Patrick Hodges took my mojo =(
At various points in the trip we played card games, too.
wallydraigle pretty much owns at Hearts, I failed hardcore at Freecell and Pyramid Solitaire, and
wantonhalo wisely avoided the mistake of playing 52 Pickup after unknowingly screwing me over in Hearts.
bbstenniz was mean enough to shoot the moon to make me take last place instead of him at the end of the game. Grrrrrrr!
Feeling a bit left out of this weekend's tournament action, today I decided to partake in the West Coast I-5 Speeding And Avoiding Radar-Using Police Forces Just For The S. Spencer Sun Of It Invitational Tournament. I knew Oregon had a peak rating of (20)70 mph this past year, and was notorious for making highly defensive strategic radar plays. Due to the presence of daylight for nearly all of Oregon, my provisional driving rating put me at 1900+, so I felt confident in my game. Despite several close calls midgame, I never gave up my lead. While it was taxing, I was victorious. Record: 1-0, +86
In Round 2, I was up against California. While a larger and far older opponent than Oregon, California has slipped in recent years and dropped to a modest (18)65 mph. Unfortunately, daylight decided to crawl into Mt. Shasta and hide, and my radar-detection-by-looking-all-around-me strategy was no longer effective. I bingoed early with QUIC(K)ER for 73 mph, and to my surprise, my veteran opponent had no response but to pass. Becoming careless, I bingoed again on my next turn with SPEEDING for 86 mph, leaving an E in California's2x2 bingo radar lane. California responded with TICKETeD through my E, and as of yet I don't know what the score is from that turn, but I suspect it will be in the hundreds. The rest of the game is being played by mail. I'm pretty sure I've lost a lot of equity points to California already, though. Freakin' bluehairs! Record: 1-1, -231
So yeah, other than the last bit of the drive back to Redding, the week was awesome. Back to uni in Kelowna on the 5th!
